Uses

AIM #701 Silicone Roof Coating is designed for use on spray applied polyurethane foam, EPDM, PVC, aged acrylic coatings, concrete, asphalt BUR, granulated modified bitumen, metal, and various single-ply membrane roofing.

Description

AIM #701 Silicone Roof Coating is a dispersion of silicone rubber. This coating is a one-part, ready-to-use material that can be applied easily to a dry, frost-free surface, and cures at normal temperature and humidity in 1 to 4 hours by reacting with moisture in the air. For applications with lower-than-normal temperature and humidity levels, expect the cure time to be longer.

This product provides long-term weathering protection and resists ultraviolet radiation while adapting to temperature extremes.

Application

Surface to be coated must be dry and free of dirt or corrosion particles. Clean with AIM #110 Detergent Primer. EPDM roofs in particular require aggressive power washing and may need to be cleaned twice to remove all surface contamination. Thoroughly rinse the roof after cleaning to remove all detergent. Primerless application is allowed on some substrates. Adhesion test results meeting the requirements of ASTM D 6694 are required for primerless applications. Discoloration of AIM #701 coating is expected when applied without primer to asphalt surfaces. Asphalt BUR, granulated modified bitumen, smooth modified bitumen and aluminum coated roofs may require AIM #140 Acrylic Resin Primer or AIM #115 Acrylic Bonding Primer for increased adhesion and/or asphalt bleed through resistance. All penetrations, drains, flashings, ponding water areas, terminations, curbs, etc., should be sealed with AIM #703 Silicone Sealant.

The coating can be applied with standard airless spray equipment or applied by medium nap roller. For small touch-up work, a brush may be used.

This product cures through absorption of moisture from both the substrate and the air. Avoid entraining air when mixing. Cure time will be faster in humid conditions and on substrates that hold moisture such as concrete. Open and partially full containers will skin over quickly. If this occurs, remove the skins and continue using the remaining product. Drying time will vary depending upon wet film thickness, temperature, humidity, and air movement
