Uses
AIM DP VI Solvent Trowel Mastic Damp Proofing is ideal for reducing dampness and moisture infiltration through foundation walls, parapets, firewalls, tanks, culverts, cisterns, and bridge abutments. AIM Solvent Trowel Mastic is applicable for above-grade cavity wall applications and below-grade masonry wall damp proofing. The AIM damp proofing product line also helps to minimize internal structural damage from mildew and mold. AIM Solvent Trowel Mastic can be used for below-grade damp proofing of walls and foundations. The product provides a continuous, vapor-resistant film with an excellent bond to clean, cured concrete. AIM Solvent Trowel Mastic protects metal surfaces against corrosion. The material remains flexible and crack-resistant under normal expansion and contraction.
Description
AIM DP VI Solvent Trowel Mastic Damp Proofing is a cold-applied, solvent-based asphalt damp proofing and vapor-retarding coating. AIM Solvent Trowel Mastic is reinforced with long fibers for application by trowel. AIM DP VI Solvent Trowel Mastic is a heavy-bodied, fibered asphalt compound for the exterior surface of below-grade masonry wall surface applications. It is recommended to protect porous or irregular surfaces.

Application
SURFACE MUST BE COMPLETELY DRY AND FULLY CURED PRIOR TO APPLICATION
Do not apply AIM Solvent Trowel Mastic when temperatures below 35° F (2° C) are anticipated. Do not apply in rain or when rain is threatening. Surface to be coated should be free of oil, grease, dirt, laitance and loose material. Apply AIM Solvent Trowel Mastic by trowel. If primer is required, use AIM Solvent Spray Mastic.
AIM Solvent Trowel Mastic can be applied directly from the container.
FOR DENSE EXTERIOR BELOW-GRADE SURFACES
Apply AIM Solvent Trowel Mastic by trowel. For dense surfaces and exterior surfaces below grade: Fill in all crevices and grooves, making sure coating is continuous and free from breaks and pinholes. Carry coating over exposed top and outside edge of footing. Spread around all joints, grooves, and slots and into all chases, corners, reveals, and soffits. Bring the coating to finished grade. Backfill should be done within 24 – 48 hours after application. Do not wait longer than seven days maximum before backfilling. Be careful not to damage or rupture the film or displace coating. Some situations may require protection board.
FOR POROUS EXTERIOR BELOW-GRADE SURFACES: Three Options are available.
- For Membrane System: For severe conditions or for added protection, apply one coat of AIM Solvent Trowel Mastic Damp Proofing on porous surfaces (such as block), according to Dense Exterior Below-Grade Surfaces Application, listed above. Within four hours, apply a glass fabric membrane cloth over all coating surfaces. Overlap all edges by 3” minimum. Press firmly into place without wrinkles. Application of the second coat of AIM Solvent Semi Mastic Damp Proofing should be with-in 24 hours.
- For Two-Coat System: Apply AIM Solvent Spray Mastic Damp Proofing as a prime coat.Allow coat to dry tacky to touch, then apply AIM Solvent Trowel Mastic in one coat, according to Dense Exterior Below-Grade Surfaces Application, listed above. Backfill should be done within 24 – 48 hours after application. Do not wait longer than seven days maximum before backing. Be careful not to damage or rupture the film or displace coating. Some situations may require protection board.
- For Parge Coat System: Before application of AIM Solvent Trowel Mastic Damp, apply a heavy parge coat of cement mortar for surface preparation. The coat should cover the bottom of the footing to grade level, forming a cove at the junction of the wall and footing. Once the parge coat cures, apply one coat of AIM Solvent Trowel Mastic Damp Proofing according to Dense Exterior Below-Grade Surfaces Application, listed above. Backfill should be done within 24 – 48 hours after application. Do not wait longer than seven days maximum before backfilling. Be careful not to damage or rupture the film or displace coating. Some situations may require protection board.
FOR INTERIOR ABOVE-GRADE SURFACES-VAPOR RETARDER
AIM Solvent Trowel Mastic Damp Proofing can be used individually or in combination with AIM Solvent Spray-Mastic or AIM Solvent Semi Mastic for damp-proofing the exterior face of interior walls in cavity wall construction.
Clean up with mineral spirits or waterless hand cleaner. Use care when handling solvents.
