Uses
AIM DP III Trowel Grade Emulsion Damp Proofing may be used individually or in combination with AIM DP I and AIM DP II for damp-proofing the exterior face of interior walls in cavity wall construction. AIM Damp-Proofing Waterborne Asphalt Emulsion coatings are ideal for reducing dampness and moisture infiltration through foundation walls, parapets, firewalls, tanks, culverts, cisterns, and bridge abutments.
AIM Damp-Proofing Waterborne Asphalt Emulsion coatings are applicable for exterior, above-grade cavity wall applications and exterior, below-grade masonry wall damp proofing. The AIM damp proofing product line also helps to minimize internal structural damage. Suitable for “green” or slightly damp surfaces. Product can be applied to exterior concrete and exterior-grade gypsum board. AIM DP III is an excellent vapor retarder. Apply in 1 coat, carrying the coating in and around all joints, grooves, and slots, following all reveals and soffits of windows and continuing 12″ (305 mm) out on adjoining partitions and soffits. AIM DP III has been used successfully for bonding polystyrene insulation board to a wide variety of substrates.
On-site testing with actual substrate is recommended. AIM DP III is reinforced with long fibers for application by trowel.
Description
AIM DP III is a cold-applied water-based emulsified-asphalt damp-proofing and vapor-retarding coatings. Can be applied to all appropriate substrates including green or slightly damp surfaces. AIM DP III is reinforced with long fibers for application by trowel. AIM Damp-Proofing Waterborne Asphalt Emulsion coatings offer a wide service temperature range of-40 to 150°F (-40 to 66°C),thus making these products suitable for most climates. The flexible character of AIM Damp-Proofing Waterborne Asphalt Emulsion coatings allows the products to withstand normal building expansion and contraction.

Application
AIM DP III should only be applied when temperatures are expected to remain above 50°F for the next 24 hours. Surface to be coated should be free of oil, grease, dirt, laitance and loose material. Dry surfaces must be dampened with water and kept damp until application.
Apply AIM DP III with a trowel. For dense surfaces and exterior surfaces below grade: Fill in all crevices and grooves, making sure coating is continuous and free from breaks and pinholes. Carry coating over exposed top and outside edge of footing. Spread around all joints, grooves, and slots and into all chases, corners, reveals, and soffits. Bring the coating to finished grade. Backfilling should be done within 24 to 48 hours after application. Do not wait longer than seven days maximum before backfilling. Be careful not to damage or rupture the film or displace coating. Some situations may require protection board. Clean wet coating with soap and water. Dry coating may be removed with mineral spirits.Use care when handling solvents.
For damp-proofing of below-grade exterior surfaces: When coating dense concrete surfaces not subject to hydrostatic pressure, a single coat of AIM DP III is generally adequate when applied at approximately 1/16″ in thickness. If conditions are severe, two coats of AIM DP III are preferable. Apply each coat at 4 gallons per 100 square feet, allowing first coat to dry before applying second coat. Fill in all crevices and grooves during application, making sure material is free from breaks and pinholes. Carry coating over exposed top and outside edge of footing.
AIM DP III dries in 8 to 12 hours in warm, dry weather. Drying can take from 2 to 7 days in cold, damp weather. Allow first coat to dry tacky before applying second coat.
On below-grade foundations: Allow AIM DP III EMULSION FIBERED DAMP PROOFING to cure at least 24 to 48 hours, with air circulation, before exposure to water or backfilling. Use forced air if necessary. Clean wet coating with soap and water. Dry coating maybe removed with mineral spirits. Use care when handling solvents.
